Snow White was a pet name her mother had given her, but her mother’s dead now. Adelaide hates that name anyway. A rampant fever claimed Adelaide’s mother just like a thousand others in Cologne where the people die without Last Rites and the dead are dumped in a large pit outside of the city walls. Adelaide’s father is determined to obtain a funeral for his wife, but that requires bribing the parish priest, Father Soren. When Soren commits an unforgivable atrocity, he pushes Adelaide to her breaking point, but if she seeks justice against the cruel priest, she risks sacrificing everything: her father, her friends, her first love, and maybe even her life.

   Since I read this a few weeks ago, and have read several others I had to go back and re-read it to refresh it.  Loved it as much on the second time as I did in the first.  The beginning started off with the death of Adelaide's  mother, who she loved well, and how she didn't get the proper funeral that all dead should receive by Father Soren.

   Lets put it like this.  I hate that priest more than I hate mustard.  He was revolting in so, so, so many ways.  Framing others for things they didn't commit.  Putting a person in the stalks for 3 days.  I would have died.
   I also grew a strong disliking to Adelaide's best friend's family.  His father abusing him and I saw his mother as a mean old cow. The only one in the family who captured my heart other than Ivo himself was Lexi.  There was a line in the book where Lexi was to tell Adelaide a message Ivo had sent to her and he acted as if it was the most disguisting thing ever to tell her that Ivo said that he loved her.  I would look it up in my book but it is currently on lend to my aunt.

   The pace was flabbergasting.  The author did one of the best jobs never getting a dull part in the whole book.  It was one event to another ,but not in such an overload that it would draw people-or me atleast- away from it.  I didn't flip a page that I didn't read once- which is a miracle because in even my favorite books I flip pages that seem to bore me.

  It was mini fairytales captured inside one big fairytale that I am waiting to see if Addie gets her Happily Ever After or if it will end something like the book The Little Mermaid where it doesn't work out.  Cinderella and The Six Swans revolve around Galdrielle, Addie's older cousin, and her little sister.   The Shoemaker revolved around Addie herself and her father- though instead of elves it was Addie trying to fix the shoes so her Father's grief wouldn't ruin his business as a cobbler.  And Addie herself as the lovely, Snow White.

Also,  I would say this was a borderline Middle Grade/ YA.  I would have believed all the way until the last ten pages that it was a middle grade if I hadn't known any better.   It writes like a middle grade.  To me there is just a way to tell a Middle Grade from a YA.  Just like I cold personally tell that Harry Potter was Middle Grade.  But being a Middle Grade isn't bad at all,  I personally loved this one and the Harry Potter even though both of them are on the line as I would say both Middle Grade and YA.

   What I can't wait for in the next book is to see if -fill in name here because I am not giving any spoilers-  ends up as her stepmother and if she will be cruel.  Addie and Ivo's relationship to broaden and  expand in maturity as well as their bond.
